Sundrops & Lollipops

Mrs. Robinson is the proud mother of a budding jazz musician. Her son Austie and three of his friends from college came this morning to entertain us! They played both Dixieland Jazz, and Sweet Jazz. It was wonderful. The first graders were toe tappin and head noddin to the beat. They even asked some great questions. My favorite was "Why doesn't the drummer use drumsticks?" To which he answered, "I couldn't find them when we got here so I just decided to play with my hands!"  We also learned what countries the different drums on a drum set come from, and what the trumpet player does with his spit!  The students loved the "Waa Waa" sound.  It was really a treat to hear such talented young musicians.  Listen to the video of "The Bare Necessities" below.  The band learned it just for our first graders.
