December was a fun month!  We learned about reindeer, Christmastime, and ended with The Polar Express.  All the first graders came to school in their PJ's to enjoy hot chocolate and watch the movie.  Thank you for all the nice Christmas wishes and gifts!  Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Next week is Red Ribbon week and Halloween. Please see the attachment for information on the themes during the week. As you're making plans for your child's costume for Halloween, please remember the following rules.
  • Students must still obey the dress code concerning revealing clothing, or dangerous items.
  • Students may not bring large and bulky items that would get in the way of movement or view of the student or others.
  • Masks are not permitted.
  • Weapons are not permitted.
  • Face and body paint are allowed; however, gory make up is not permitted. This is an elementary school.
  • Please send your child IN COSTUME to school.  We won't have time to help them change.

Halloween Parade:  Starting at 10:00am on Halloween, we are putting on a parade of costumes. You are welcome to come and watch the parade.  We will be parading outside the classrooms(weather permitting).  Please don't come in the school, just wait on the grass outside our classroom door and we promise you will see us!

Pumpkins

We had a fun week learning about pumpkins.  We learned about adjectives and wrote some on our class pumpkin.  We made pumpkins in the hall.  We went to the pumpkin patch and saw hundreds of pumpkins.  We carved, weighed, and measured our class pumpkin.  We did a fun fact or opinion activity and wrote our own facts and opinions about pumpkins.  We even learned a new word!  If you hear the word peduncle, it is the scientific name for a pumpkin's stem.  I hope you enjoy the slide show.  I had to take the pictures at school because it was so windy and cold at the pumpkin patch.  If your child isn't in it, it's because you didn't sign the release to share your child's photo on my blog, or your child didn't get their picture taken even though I asked several times if everyone had their picture taken.  So sorry!

In Pictures

Here's some photo's of our recent walking trip around the neighborhood.  We decided that some of the best things in our neighborhood are movies, drinks at  KB, and tacos at Albertos.  The kids had clipboards to check off each place we found like a scavenger hunt!

We have a new teacher at our school.  His name is Mr. Seely.  He is teaching theater arts.  We get to go every other Friday.  It is awesome!  Mr. Seely is awesome.  When we played the pirate game he talked like a pirate.  The kids had so much fun and giggled so hard they couldn't even move!

New Class, New Year!

We've had a great start to the new school year!  All the kids are so cute and excited to learn.  We had Samantha's grandpa do a few magic tricks for us on Friday.  The kids were laughing hysterically.  I hope they told you about it.  We are learning first grade procedures and rules.  We will start a handwriting review this week, as well as math and phonics.  Math homework should start on Tuesday.  I can tell it's going to be a great year!

We had so much fun at our Valentines Party!  First we made a cute butterfly out of hearts and suckers.  Then we played games like using chopsticks to move the candy hearts and hot lava stepping stones relay.  We ended the day with decorating some terrific cupcakes.  Thanks to all the parents who donated items or helped at the party.  We appreciate you very much!  Here are some snapshots of the day.  I apologize if you don't see your child, some of my pictures turned out blurry.
